Local Design in Kerkrade
In 2011 the new lion enclosure in Gaia Park Zoo Kerkrade has been opened.
To create an African Safari Experience Rob van Acker – Local Design designed and constructed a safari vehicle. The lions can be viewed through thick safety glass. The Landrover sticks its nose though the glass into the lion enclosure. Children and adults can enter the car from the rear and get a true safari experience.
To make this possible Rob van Acker – Local Design sliced an old Landrover series 3 in two halves. The hood had to be made lion proof and the visitors part had to be made attractive, strong and safe. To make it more attractive the steering wheel still moves as well as pedals, gearshift and other parts. Some children pay more attention to the Landrover than to the proud lions…….
